Paula believes that empathy and compassion are essential for fostering trusting therapeutic relationships with her clients that are critical for successful psychotherapy. This type of strong relationship enables clients to be comfortable sharing their feelings and concerns, and helps ensure that they can focus on their most important issues and individualized goals.
Paula practices primarily in the area of mental health (e.g., adjustment issues, anxiety, and depression) as well as in areas of grief/loss, life transitions, and stress management. She provides psychological treatment to school-age children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing a wide range of problems and concerns. Her empathic treatment approach is based on sound psychological principles and research and primarily involves Cognitive-Behavioural strategies. She also draws on other treatment approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and Mindful Self-Compassion.
Throughout Paula’s years as a therapist in a variety of settings, she has also facilitated presentations and workshops on topics such as grief, coping with sudden loss, anxiety and mood management for adults, adolescents and children, communication and conflict resolution, self-esteem, stress management/burnout prevention and self-care, decision making, and parenting skills.
In addition to helping clients with reducing their emotional distress and symptoms, she is interested in assisting them to reach their full potential in life.
